Remembering the time I lured a rare bird with my phone, and wondering if I crossed a line.

Feel that guilt hard. I've totally stood there with my phone out wondering if getting the perfect shot was worth stressing the animal out. That line between sharing a cool moment and being a pest gets real blurry fast. But the fact you're even worried about it means you care more than most.

Honestly wonder if we're overthinking this whole thing. Animals get spooked by wind or falling branches all the time, it's just part of being outside. Sure, don't be a jerk and chase something with your camera, but a person quietly taking a picture from far away isn't the end of the world. The guilt seems a bit much for just trying to capture a neat thing you saw.

Watch how the animal reacts before you even lift your phone. I learned that from missing a shot because a deer bolted the second I moved. Now I wait until they're comfortable, which means less stress for them and better photos for me. Sometimes I'll sit still for ages just to get one natural moment, and it feels worth it knowing I didn't scare them off.
