Tried a simple water bath for my oriole jelly and something wild happened
I had a glass of oriole jelly get all crusty and moldy after three days of sun exposure, so I put the feeder dish in a shallow pan of water like I saw online... now the jelly stays fresh for almost a whole week and the birds won't leave the dish alone. Has anyone else tried this trick with their sugar water or grape jelly feeders?

That water bath trick is a game changer for sure. I tried it with my hummingbird sugar water last summer and it cut down on the cleaning so much. No more scrubbing crusty stuff off the glass every other day. The ants and bees hate it too since they can't get past the water barrier. Just gotta keep the water level topped off so the dish doesn't sit dry.

Oh man, that's slick! My buddy Dave tried this with his hummingbird feeder last month after watching an ant parade crawl straight into the syrup. He filled a shallow pie tin with water and set the feeder right in the middle. @karenlane is spot on about the water barrier thing, he said the ants just gave up after two days and the sugar water stayed clean for nearly a week and a half before he bothered to change it out. I guess the birds don't mind wading a little to get to the good stuff.
