Appreciation post: A trucker at a Pilot in Flagstaff told me to stop fixing my bad days and just leave them
Everyone says you push through a rough day, but he watched me snap at the cashier over a $4 coffee and said, "Son, some days you just gotta eat the loss and drive." I sat in my cab 20 minutes instead of white knuckling the next 300 miles, and the whole trip turned around. Does anyone else have a rule for when to quit a bad day early?
Twenty minutes in the cab at a Pilot in Flagstaff probably saved that guy more than the coffee cost him. Respectfully though, I don't buy the idea that you just quit a bad day early. Most of the time when I'm snapping at some cashier over a $4 coffee, the day isn't the problem, I am. Walking away for 20 minutes feels like a fix but it's really just a pause button, and whatever was eating me is still sitting in the passenger seat when I pull back onto the 40. What that trucker actually handed him was permission to stop and breathe, not permission to bail. Sometimes the better move is to figure out what's really wrong instead of just parking it and hoping the next 300 miles feel better.
