Bought a $20 emergency phone charger at a gas station after my car died in the rain

Keep that charger in your glove box, not the center console. I learned the hard way after mine got fried from summer heat. The cheap ones don't have great temperature protection.

My glove box gets just as hot as the console, @rivera.christopher. I've had better luck just buying a decent charger that can handle the heat.

$20 for a gas station charger is basically playing Russian roulette with your phone's battery life. That thing probably has the heat tolerance of a snowflake in hell. I'm surprised it even worked long enough to get you out of that rain situation. Next time save yourself the trouble and just buy a pack of AA batteries and a paperclip to hotwire your car, probably more reliable than that overpriced plastic brick. At least you learned the lesson that gas station electronics are a SCAM designed for desperate people with dead cars and wet socks.
