Frozen pipe burst at 3 AM last Tuesday, but the neighbor saved the day
I woke up to water dripping through my kitchen ceiling at 3 AM last Tuesday. It was a frozen pipe in the attic that finally let go. I had no clue where the main shutoff was since I'd only moved in a month before. My neighbor two doors down, a retired plumber, heard me running around and came over at 3:15 with a flashlight and a wrench. He had the water off in two minutes and even helped me patch the pipe the next morning. Has anyone else had a random neighbor turn a disaster around for them?

Hold on, I gotta push back a little here. I'm with @tylerlane on finding your shutoff, but honestly, having a stranger in your house at 3 AM while you're panicking sounds like a setup for something sketchy. I'd rather have a wet floor than let some retired guy I barely know start pulling wrenches in my attic without checking his license first.

Frozen pipe burst at 3 AM" brings back memories, man. I'd say definitely find your main shutoff valve today and put a tag on it so you're not scrambling in the dark next time. That retired plumber neighbor is a lifesaver, maybe buy him a six pack or something.
