Got caught in a freak hailstorm hiking near Boulder yesterday

Thought my day was ruined when the sky suddenly dumped golf ball sized ice on me, but I stumbled into a little trailside cafe where the owner gave me a free hot chocolate and let me dry off by their wood stove. Has anyone else had a random stranger turn their whole miserable afternoon around like that?

Whoa, wait. Golf ball sized? That's not a hailstorm, that's nature trying to take you out. Glad you made it to that cafe though, sounds like you got really lucky.

Drove through a storm like that once near Amarillo. Windows cracked, dents all over the roof. Scariest thing I've ever sat through in a car. Glad you made it out safe too man, those things can kill you if you're not careful.

That nature trying to take you out" line got me, because I had a similar moment years ago but with a thunderstorm in the Smokies. I was soaked through and shivering on a trail when a guy in a pickup offered me a ride back to town, even let me sit on his heated seat while he cranked the heat. It's funny how the worst weather can lead to meeting the best people.
