Had to pick between staying at my old job or taking a pay cut for a better one
Three years ago I was making $52k at a warehouse gig but the OT was eating my weekends. I got an offer at a small print shop for $45k with set hours. I took the cut and honestly it was rough for six months adjusting the budget. Last week I got promoted to lead press operator at the same shop making more than I did before. Has anyone else taken a temporary step back that actually worked out?

Whoa hold on there. You said you took a pay cut from $52k to $45k, but that's actually a $7k drop, not a temporary step back. That's a solid 13% cut, which is a lot more than most people realize when they're making that choice. It sounds like you knew what you were getting into though, and the promotion proves the risk paid off.
