Paying $130 for a tow was the best $130 I ever spent

My car died in the middle of a highway on-ramp last Tuesday and I almost tried to push it to the shoulder myself. A state trooper showed up before I did something stupid and made me call a tow. I was pissed about the $130 but the driver got me to a shop that fixed the alternator same day for $210. That night I realized if I had tried to move that car I could've gotten hit or caused a wreck. Has anyone else had a pricey emergency service turn out to be a total lifesaver?

Funny how the stuff we hate paying for is usually the stuff that keeps us alive. Same thing happened to me with a plumber who charged $400 to fix a pipe I could've "handled myself." Turns out the pipe was cracked in three places and would've flooded my basement by morning. It's like the universe charges a tax for saving us from our own bad decisions.
