Pulled up an old family photo album last weekend and noticed something weird

I was flipping through pictures from 1998 and realized every single tree in the background was a silver maple. Turns out that species is dying off fast in my area - lost about 30 percent of them in the last 20 years according to a local forestry report. Made me wonder how much of the scenery from my childhood is already gone - have you ever looked back at old photos and spotted something like that?

Got a friend who dug out an old photo from her grandma's house and it showed this huge oak tree in the front yard... She went back to the same street last year and the whole block looked different. The oak was gone, replaced by some little sapling and a patch of grass. Turns out a storm took it down in 2005 but she never really thought about it until she saw that picture. Just made her stop and realize how much the landscape shifts without you even noticing... It's like the background of your life just slowly changes while you're looking at other stuff. Makes you wonder what else is missing that you don't even remember.
