TIL a $9 can of spray foam saved my whole weekend after my dad's 20 year old advice about duct tape
Last Saturday I found water pooling under my kitchen sink in Everett and my dad told me over the phone to just wrap the leaky joint in duct tape, which I did and it held for about 4 hours before the whole thing let go again. A guy at the hardware store on Broadway laughed and handed me a $9 can of spray foam, and that patch is still dry 9 days later. What's the worst "just use duct tape" advice you ever got from family?
My uncle once told me to fix a cracked radiator hose with electrical tape and it blew on the highway an hour later. People just repeat whatever got them out of one jam like it's a law of nature, even when the fix is only meant to last a day. Duct tape and family advice both have a shelf life, and nobody wants to admit when it's up.
