My grandma's 1970s bundt pan gave me the ugliest cake I've ever made

Pulled out her old aluminum bundt pan last week to make a lemon pound cake for a family dinner in Portland. First batch came out looking like a creepy spaceship with half the design stuck to the pan bottom. I scrubbed it with baking soda for 20 minutes and found the nonstick coating was totally gone in spots.

The preheating trick might be the missing piece here. With old aluminum pans you actually need to let them sit in the oven for 10 minutes after it reaches temperature so the metal gets fully hot. Also grease every single nook and cranny with butter then dust with flour, not just spray. Those vintage pans were made before nonstick was common so they need more prep work than modern ones.

That thing about dusting with flour is huge. I grew up watching my grandma do that and she'd always tap the pan upside down to shake out the excess before pouring batter in.
