My sourdough starter used to be a mess until I switched to a digital scale

For years I just used cups and spoons to feed my starter, and it was always weak or too sour. After it died for the third time last winter, I bought a $20 scale and started weighing my flour and water in grams. Now my starter is strong and my bread rises right every time. Has anyone else found that one simple tool fixed a big baking problem?

Oh yeah, the scale was a total game changer for me too (I was always packing flour way too tight in the cups). It just takes the guesswork out completely.

Was it the same for you with measuring by volume just feeling off? My starter was always sluggish until I started using filtered water. Our tap water is heavily chlorinated, and once I switched to the cheap bottled stuff from the grocery store, it perked right up. It was like night and day. That one change made it so much more reliable.
