That buttercream fail at my sister's wedding cake still bothers me
My sister asked me to make her wedding cake last June and I told her I'd practiced buttercream roses at least 20 times. But when I got to the venue in Austin it was 95 degrees and my buttercream started sliding right off the cake layers before I even finished frosting. She and her maid of honor stood in the kitchen watching me try to fix it with chilled spatulas and extra powdered sugar. They were really nice about it but I could tell they were worried. Has anyone else had a piping disaster right before an event?

95 degrees and buttercream? That's basically a soup recipe waiting to happen.

Starting with the opposite take here, but maybe that sliding buttercream actually made the cake more memorable. Sometimes a perfectly piped cake is forgettable, but everyone at that wedding probably still talks about the "sliding cake incident" with a laugh. At least your sister and her maid of honor were cool about it, which means she values you more than a flawless dessert.
