Tried sourdough starter from scratch. 5 days of feeding and got green mold instead of bubbles.

Used tap water instead of filtered. That chlorine killed all the wild yeast. Anyone else make this mistake or was I just unlucky?

Yeah chlorine is brutal for starters, I always let tap water sit out overnight before using it.

Chlorine is one of those things you don't think about until it ruins something you've been working on. It reminds me of how people use tap water for houseplants and wonder why their leaves turn brown. The same thing happens with fish tanks, people lose their whole setup because they didn't treat the water first. It's interesting how many everyday habits get in the way without us even realizing it. At least now you know for next time, letting the water sit out overnight or using bottled water is the way to go.
