A guy at the flea market told me my $2 toolbox rust display was 'sad', so now I only buy stuff with actual dents
I used to grab any shiny $1 socket set from the bin at the Route 40 flea market and stack it like a little trophy shelf. Then this older guy named Dale looked at my haul and said 'kid, clean tools look like you never used them, beat up ones mean you actually fix things.' Now I flip past the perfect stuff and dig for the ones with stripped handles or bent wrenches. Anyone else got a weird rule for picking through junk bins?
That Dale guy sounds like he was giving you the whole "tools should look used" speech while he was probably trying to sell you something rusty for triple the price. I had a similar thing happen with old cameras, now I wont touch one unless the leather case smells like basement and the lens cap is missing.
