Bought a $5 electric knife sharpener from a garage sale and figured it would be junk.

Ran all my kitchen knives through it yesterday and they actually cut through tomatoes like butter now. Has anyone else found a cheap gadget that turned out way better than expected?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I grabbed one of those dollar store vegetable choppers that look like a plastic death trap and figured I'd toss it after one use. That thing is still going strong three years later and I've literally only cut myself with it twice which is honestly a win in my book. My kitchen is basically a museum of garbage that works way too well. I gotta say though, my cheap knife sharpener story has the same ending yours did - I still have the scar from testing it on my thumb to prove it actually works.

Found a cheap little drill bit sharpener at a flea market for like two bucks... figured it was totally useless but threw it in my toolbox anyway. Tried it on some old bits that couldn't even get through pine and man, they actually work again now. Thing looks like a plastic toy from a cereal box but it does the job. Sometimes the janky stuff surprises you.
