PSA: Check the expiration dates on those discount bin protein bars

Stopped by the Dollar Plus on 4th Street yesterday and grabbed a box of those off brand protein bars for $2.50. Got home and noticed the date on the back was from last September. These things were rock hard and tasted like cardboard with a side of disappointment. I swear I saw the same type of thing in the bargain bin at Big Lots last month too. Has anyone else gotten sick from expired discount food or am I just being dramatic?

Laughing at myself because I once ate a whole box of discount granola bars that were expired by like 8 months. My stomach did NOT appreciate my frugal choices that night. Let's just say I spent the rest of the evening apologizing to my toilet. Now I check dates EVERYWHERE, even on stuff I'm pretty sure is fine. Seriously, those off brand bars are tough enough when they're fresh, expired ones are basically a workout for your jaw.
