10 years of bike commuting before I got smarter about rain gear
I fought with wet socks every spring for like 8 years. Thought that was just how it was. Then last April in Seattle I saw a guy on a road bike with these simple waterproof shoe covers. I asked him about them and he pointed me to a pair for $25 at a local shop. No more wet feet. Wish I had known that in my twenties.

That's why I always pack a spare pair of socks in a ziplock bag now... learned that one the hard way riding home in November with rain boots that weren't tall enough.

And yeah @gonzalez.wesley, that's a rough way to learn that lesson. November rain is just miserable when your feet are soaked through too. I've definitely been there with the wrong gear and it makes the whole ride home feel way longer than it actually is.
