Changed my mind about riding in the rain after a chat at the bike shop

I was at City Cycles on Main Street and the mechanic, a guy named Carl, said he actually prefers a cheap, basic rain jacket over a fancy waterproof one for his 4-mile commute. He pointed out that the expensive ones trap sweat and you end up wet anyway. So I tried a simple $30 windbreaker last week and stayed drier from the inside out. Anyone have a good tip for keeping your glasses clear in the rain?

My old optometrist told me to rub a tiny drop of dish soap on each lens and then buff it off. It leaves a film that stops water from beading up. I use the plain blue Dawn kind and it works for a few hours before you need to redo it.

Has @wyatt148 tried it to see about the smears? I've done that trick for years and it only gets streaky if you use too much soap. Just a tiny dot wiped completely clear works best.

That dish soap trick from @keith279, does it leave any weird smears?
