Didn't realize I rode 999 miles to work until my app hit 1000 on a Tuesday
My commute is 6 miles each way and I never really kept score until Strava popped up with 1,000 total miles on Tuesday morning, right as I rolled into the parking lot off 5th Street. What got me was the math: that's 83 days of riding, which means I somehow biked across the country without noticing. The dumb part is I celebrated by almost clipping a guy walking his dog named Biscuit. Anyone else have a mileage number sneak up on them like that?
That math hit me harder than I expected. I used to roll my eyes at people who tracked every mile, figured it was just a way to brag on the internet, but then my own number crept up on me the same way and I got it. You don't feel the miles when they're spread out over months of just getting to work and back, then suddenly you've basically crossed a state line without ever leaving your normal route. Biscuit's owner probably has no idea he almost got taken out by a milestone. Kind of wild how the small rides add up to something big when you're not even paying attention.
