Totally get that. I had a delivery truck pull out right in front of me on Maple last year, and I never would have heard the engine over my music. Now I just keep one earbud out or the volume super low. You need all your senses working at a busy spot like 4th Street, no question. It feels weird at first, but you get used to riding without that soundtrack.

So you're telling me the secret to not getting hit is just... listening to the world? What a wild idea. I guess my playlist of angry driving songs isn't as important as hearing that truck's engine rev. It still feels wrong to ride in silence though, like something's missing. Maybe the real soundtrack is just the sweet, sweet sound of not being in an ambulance.
