My rain gear debate: full waterproof suit vs. just a jacket and wet legs

Got caught in a downpour on the way to my office in Seattle last month. I used to wear a full rain suit, but it made me sweat so much I was soaked anyway. This time, I just wore my good rain jacket and let my legs get wet, changing pants at work. It was way more comfortable, but my coworker says I'm nuts for not staying dry. What's your move for heavy rain?

Consider the long game for your gear. A full suit traps heat and wears out faster from all that extra washing after you sweat through it. Letting fabric breathe sometimes beats a total seal.
