That driver who honked at me for taking the lane actually apologized later

Happened on College Street in Toronto. Rush hour, no bike lane there. I took the full lane because parked cars everywhere. Guy in a pickup lays on the horn for like 10 seconds. We both stop at the red light at Spadina. He rolls down his window and says sorry, he just didn't see any danger. Told me he saw another cyclist get doored last week. We talked for a minute about how tight that stretch is. Anyone else ever had a driver actually apologize after yelling?

Maybe it's just me but this kind of thing happens more often than people think. Drivers and cyclists are just regular folks who sometimes snap, then cool down when they actually talk face to face. A little conversation usually fixes a lot more than yelling from inside a car ever will.

Funny you say that because the last time I got into it with a cyclist, I was the one who cooled down first. Ended up apologizing for honking and he bought me a coffee at the corner shop. Made me wonder who really snapped in that moment, right? The real kicker is when you're stuck in traffic and just let the other person vent for a minute. Nine times out of ten they realize you're not the monster they built up in their head. Doesn't mean I don't still turn into a grumpy mess behind the wheel sometimes though. Maybe that's just how it goes when you're a regular person who's running late and forgot their lunch on the counter. A little human contact can melt the dumbest arguments before they even start.

Must've been the heat melting his road rage into regret (or maybe just good karma).
