The $60 rain suit that soaked me through in 15 minutes

Last month I dropped 60 bucks on a fancy breathable rain jacket and pants for my 20 mile round trip commute in Seattle. First heavy downpour hit me on the Burke-Gilman trail and I was drenched to the skin by the time I got to work, had to borrow a coworker's spare clothes. Anyone else get burned by expensive 'waterproof' gear, or is there a brand that actually holds up in real rain?
