Unpopular opinion: The bike lane on 7th Ave in Seattle is a death trap, not a safety feature

I rode it last Wednesday during rush hour and almost got doored twice in 3 blocks. The lanes are squeezed between parked cars and moving traffic with zero buffer. Who thought putting cyclists right in the door zone was a good idea? Has anyone else bailed on that route?

Yeah it's like they just paint lines without actually thinking about how people use the space.

Paint lines" is right, feels like they just color in whatever grid their computer spits out and call it a day.

Read a study recently that said most people don't follow the painted paths anyway, they just take the shortest route. Makes you wonder why they don't just watch where people actually walk for a few weeks before laying down the asphalt. Seems like common sense but obviously that's in short supply at city planning offices.
