Can we talk about how Dark on Netflix needs a flowchart?

I started Dark last week thinking it was just another German crime drama. By episode 5 I had to pause and write down character names because I got lost. There is a family tree that spans THREE generations and time travel loops on top of it. I actually printed out a guide from Reddit to keep straight who is who. My buddy told me you have to watch it twice to really get everything. Has anyone else needed a notebook for a show just to follow the plot?

I read that the creators actually mapped out three whole seasons before filming.
