Can we talk about skipping the first episode of a show on purpose

Honestly I started doing this after I kept dropping shows halfway through season 1. I tried powering through the boring setup for like 5 or 6 different series but it never worked. So now I just skip the pilot episode entirely and go straight to episode 2 or 3. That way I catch the real hook and then go back if I need to. Has anyone else tried jumping in mid-stream like this or am I just weird?

Pilot episodes killed 3 shows for me before I tried skipping them.

Oh wow, I mean is skipping whole episodes really that deep though? Like if you miss the pilot and then go back, aren't you just watching out of order anyway? I've accidentally skipped the first episode of a show because Netflix autoplayed the wrong one and honestly I was fine, I just figured out the characters later. Maybe it's just me but I feel like some shows frontload way too much boring setup and you're doing yourself a favor by jumping ahead to where stuff actually happens.
