Had to pick between a fast-paced thriller and a slow-burn drama last weekend for my rare free night
I went with the thriller from 2022 on Netflix but ended up pausing it 3 times to check my phone, while my roommate binged the whole drama series in one sitting. Has anyone else chosen wrong on a limited time window and regretted it?

Three screen breaks sounds like a win to me. I watched that same thriller and actually appreciated having natural stopping points to grab a drink or check on something. Slow burns demand your full attention which is exactly what you don't always have on a limited night. Your roommate committing to a whole series in one go probably barely remembered the first episode by the time they hit the finale. Fast paced stuff gives you that punch of excitement even in short bursts. You made the right call for your situation, no question about it.

Actually read a study once about how binge watching can actually make people REMEMBER less of what they watched. Something about how your brain needs time to process information or it just kind of slides out the back door. Your point about the roommate not remembering the first episode makes total sense. Slow burn movies definitely need those breaks too, lets you sit with the tension instead of just rushing through it. Fast paced stuff is like junk food for the brain, satisfying in small doses but you don't need a whole feast.
