My buddy Dave watches every show at 1.5x speed and I finally got why it bugs me
Dave pulled up his phone at my kitchen table last Saturday and showed me he was 9 episodes into a show I hadn't even started. He watched all 9 in 2 days at 1.5x speed and told me he "gets the plot just fine." I tried it for one episode and felt like I was watching a trailer for 45 minutes straight. Here's the thing, though. He can name every plot twist, but he couldn't tell me a single scene that made him laugh or cringe, because he never sat in one long enough to feel it. I watch slow, sometimes 2 episodes a night max, and I still remember a diner scene from a show I finished in 2022. So who's actually getting more out of it? Curious if anyone here speeds shows up, or am I the weird one for needing the pauses and the boring shots.
Is it really that deep though? Dave's not hurting anyone and he still knows the plot, so maybe he just wants to keep up with the water cooler talk and doesn't care about the feel of a scene. I get why it bugs you, but some people just treat TV as background noise while they fold laundry or whatever. If you love the pauses and the boring shots, great, that's your thing, and if he loves blasting through 9 episodes in a weekend, that's his. Not everything needs a winner.
