My streaming queue got corrupted and I lost 40 episodes of progress

Last Saturday I was about 12 episodes deep into a show on my Fire Stick when the app just crashed. When I restarted it, my whole watch history was wiped clean. All 40 episodes I had marked as watched were gone and the app showed I was back at episode 1. I tried restarting the stick and even reinstalling the app but nothing brought my progress back. Turns out the auto-sync between my account and the device got messed up somehow and I had no backup. Now I have to manually click through all those episodes again just to get back where I was. Has anyone else had their streaming progress disappear like this and found a fix that actually works?
