Our town's park started outdoor screenings of old shows... but not all are happy

The recreation department set up a projector in the park for weekly show binges. Some folks think it's a fun way to bring people together... others say it's too loud and draws crowds late. My neighbor even started a petition to stop it. I'm caught in the middle since I live nearby. What do you all think about public binge-watching events?

Have we all forgotten what it means to live in a community? These events are one of the few times people actually meet their neighbors instead of just waving from the car. So what if it's a bit loud on a summer night, that's the sound of people having fun together. The petition crowd could try joining in instead of hiding behind curtains, it might change their view. Compromise on the time or sound level makes more sense than killing a good thing that gets folks together.

Notice this kind of thing in my own neighborhood all the time... people want fun community stuff but never agree on the details. It always comes down to a fight between fun and quiet for folks living close by. These events sound great in theory but split people in practice.

Doesn't that split just make everything worse next time? Tbh once people pick sides, they dig in and won't even try to fix the real problem.
