Guy at the Ohio show swore by quenching in motor oil, and my chain broke on the third heat
Met a smith named Dale at a show in Lima, Ohio back in March who told me to skip the parks 50 and just quench my tongs in used motor oil. I did it on a set of bolt tongs and by the third heat the reins cracked right at the boss. Maybe I got the oil too hot or moved too slow, but I am not trying that again on anything that has to hold weight. Anyone else been burned by a quench tip from a show floor?
