Heating a piece in my old propane forge versus the new coal one I built last month, the difference in weld quality is huge.

Yeah, I read that coal gives you a more even heat.

Oh man, palmer.val that's so true about even heat, but nobody talks about the flavor difference! I tried coal for a brisket once and it gave this weird mineral taste, like licking a penny. My buddy swears it's perfect for pizza though, gets that blistery crust. I'm sticking with hardwood for most stuff, the smoke just tastes cleaner to me.
