My old anvil vs the new one I almost bought

I grew up using my grandpa's beat up 150 pound anvil with a face like a washboard. Last year I saved up for one of those fancy new ones with the hardened face and perfect edges. Spent a whole Saturday testing it at the shop in Tulsa and it rang so clean it almost hurt my ears. But when I brought my work home and tried it side by side, the old one just talked to me better, like it knew exactly where to bounce the hammer. That new one sat in the box for a week before I returned it. Anyone else stick with a rough old tool because it matches how you swing?

That new one rang so clean it hurt my ears" sounds like a dinner bell, not a workhorse.
