My old post vise gave out on me yesterday, the main screw just sheared clean off.

Saw a forum post where a guy said that usually happens from over-tightening or a hidden crack. Might be worth checking the rest of the vise body for stress marks. Tough break though, those old ones are hard to replace.

Heard the same thing about old cast iron being brittle.
