Old timer told me to quench my tongs in salt water instead of plain
I was over at Bob's shop last Tuesday and he said soaking hot tongs in salt water keeps them from cracking as fast. I've been doing it for two weeks now and my tong tips haven't chipped at all, which usually happens after a few heavy sessions. Has anyone else tried this trick or is Bob just messing with me?

Wait, didn't my buddy Tim try this and his tongs just rusted out faster?

Tim's problem is he probably didn't rinse them off good enough after. You gotta give them a quick rinse with fresh water and let them dry completely before putting them away. I made that mistake my first time and my tongs looked terrible within a month. Now I just keep a bucket of fresh water next to the grill and dip them in there before I store them. Night and day difference since I started doing that.

Switched to salt water last spring and my tongs are holding up way better than they used to. Can't argue with results like that.
