Showerthought: My noisy anvil actually gets the block talking, not complaining.

Many smiths think loud forging will upset people nearby. I've found that showing folks how it works cuts the tension fast. Last month, a neighbor brought his son over to try it out.

Honestly thought noise complaints were just part of the deal with this hobby. Watching a kid's face light up while striking hot metal really flips that idea on its head. Turns the whole thing from a nuisance into a show people want to see. My old worry about the racket seems pretty silly now. That shared excitement is way better than quiet.

Yeah, bringing out a spare anvil and letting folks try a simple strike changed everything for me. Neighbors went from annoyed to bringing their friends over on weekends.
