Spent $320 on a welder I did not need and it saved my whole shop setup
I do mostly hand forging, hammers and tongs and fire tools, so a welder felt like cheating to me for years. Last fall I finally caved and picked up a used 220v MIG on Marketplace for $320 because I needed to build a stand for my anvil and a rack for my stock. Turns out the rack was the real win, because my 20 foot sticks of 3/8 round bar were always getting tangled on the floor and I was tripping over them in the dark. Now everything hangs, I can grab one without stepping on anything, and my forge time went up because setup is not a mess anymore. The welds are ugly as sin but they hold, so what did you all use for your first stock rack, bolts or did you weld it?
