Switched to a coal forge after 5 years of propane, the color difference is wild

I mean, I always thought propane gave cleaner heat control, but watching the steel move from dull red to bright orange so much faster in coal changed my mind in one afternoon, has anyone else made that jump and struggled with the fuel smell at first?

The smell threw me off for a solid two weeks after switching. I found that keeping a small fan behind me pointing at the forge helps push the smoke away from your face, and burning the coal hot enough to get that blueish flame cuts the stink way down. Also, wet coal chunks smell way worse than dry, so I started storing my coal in a covered bin and that made a big difference. You get used to it, but the speed of heat is what really sold me too.
