Tried a coal forge after 15 years of gas, surprised me in a bad way
I ran a gas forge out of my garage in Tulsa since 2009. Last month a buddy let me use his old coal forge for a project. I forgot how fast coal eats steel if you are not watching it. My 3/8 inch bar came out looking like a butter knife after 20 minutes. I pulled it too early and the core was still cold. Coal takes more attention than I remember, and I think my gas setup spoiled me. Anyone else switch back and find it way harder than they expected?
