Had a vintage Pendleton blazer catch on a loose pocket knife clip at a flea market last weekend

I was digging through a bin at the Portland Flea Market on Saturday, wearing this old 70s Pendleton I found at Goodwill last month. Out of nowhere I felt a tug and heard this awful ripping sound. My EDC knife had clipped onto a metal shelf and the clip caught the lining of my blazer as I turned. I pulled away too fast and tore a 3 inch gash right under the arm. I was so mad I almost walked out but the guy selling had a sewing kit under his table. He helped me stitch it up with some matching thread we found in his junk drawer. Now the blazer has a visible patch but honestly it gives it more character than it had before. Has anyone else wrecked a good jacket because of a knife clip catching on something?

Man that sucks, I'm glad you ended up with a good story and some character instead of just a ruined blazer though. Been there with a favorite wool coat snagging on a door hinge and it stung bad enough I still check every pocket before I turn around in tight spaces.

Hey @zarar75, did you ever find a fix for that wool coat or did you just roll with the battle scar? I always wonder if people go the patch route or just accept it as part of the coat's story now. Door hinges are brutal though, they always seem to catch you right when you're least expecting it. I've got a jacket with a little tear on the elbow from a similar situation and I actually kinda like it now, gives it some personality. But yeah, that initial sting of ruining something nice is the worst.
