I spent years sharpening my pocket knives wrong and didn't know until a guy at the flea market in Eugene showed me
I always used a pull through sharpener on my Benchmade 940 because it was fast and easy. Some older guy selling vintage letterman jackets at the Springfield flea market casually asked why I was ruining my blade edge. He handed me a simple $15 Norton stone and walked me through a few passes, and the difference was honestly night and day. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely change how you do something simple like that?

that's the thing with most skills in life, you don't know what you don't know until someone who actually knows what they're doing points it out... it's wild how many little things we do wrong for years just because nobody ever showed us the right way.

yeah it's basically realizing you've been wiping with the wrong hand for 30 years. someone shows you once and you're just standing there like "how did I not figure that out myself
