Just talked to an old tailor in Chicago about his knife collection

I was getting a vintage sports jacket altered last week and the guy, must be 80, pulls out this custom pocket knife to cut threads. He told me he only uses blades he got from other tailors over 40 years, each one has a story. Made me think, do you guys collect knives that have a history or just buy new ones for the look?

Eighty years old and he's still cutting thread, sounds like a man who's earned his knives.

Man "earned his knives"? That's a bit dramatic dont you think? The guy is 80 and cutting thread, not forging blades in a volcano or something. It's impressive sure but lets not act like he's some mythical figure. People act like being old and still doing basic stuff is some huge accomplishment. My grandpa is 85 and still drives to the store every day, nobody's carving statues of him.
