My grandpa in Cleveland saw my knife roll and asked why I carry a jacket to match it
Stopped by my grandpa's place in Cleveland two weeks ago and he watched me lay out my three slip joints on the table and then asked why I had a 1970s wool blazer hanging next to them. I told him the two hobbies just kind of go together for me, brown micarta with a brown tweed, that sort of thing. He laughed and said when he was my age he matched his tie to his pocket knife every Sunday and nobody thought it was weird. Made me rethink the whole "odd combo" thing I've been a little shy about at shows. Anybody else have an older relative who made them feel less weird about pairing blades with vintage jackets?
Small correction but those old slip joints weren't really matched to jackets back then. Guys in your grandpa's day would match their knife to their watch fob or their cufflinks, not a full blazer. The tweed and micarta thing is more of a newer leather and canvas crowd move. Still cool that he got it though, most older folks just tell you to leave that stuff at home.
