My grandpa's 1962 blazer fits better than anything I've bought new, and I'm done pretending otherwise
Three years ago I paid $180 for a new wool blazer at a mall in Boise and the shoulders never sat right. Last month I found my grandpa's old navy blazer from 1962 at my mom's house, took it to a tailor who charged me $40 to take in the waist, and it fits like it was cut for me. I think the whole push toward slim modern cuts is a mistake for anyone who isn't built like a mannequin. The old jackets had room in the chest and you could actually move your arms. I also carry a small stockman knife in the right pocket and that 1962 wool has heavier lining that holds the weight without sagging, which new jackets don't do. Has anyone else given up on new jackets and just hunted vintage instead, or am I just lucky my grandpa was my size?
