TIL a butter knife can fix a vintage blazer button that's about to pop off

I was at a thrift store in Omaha last Saturday looking for old sports jackets. Found a sweet 70s plaid blazer, but the button was hanging by a thread. I tried to gently work it back with my pocket knife blade and the thread SNAPPED clean off. Learned the hard way that a dull butter knife from the store's break room would have been way safer to pry the fabric. Has anyone else had a jacket repair go totally sideways because of a knife mishap?

I saw a video where a guy used a spoon instead and it worked perfectly.

Spoons work too. Never use anything sharp near old threads. Live and learn.
