Vent: People who oil their knife pivots with WD-40 are driving me crazy

I was at a knife meetup in Portland last weekend and watched three different guys pull out a can of WD-40 to lube their custom flippers. That stuff is not a lubricant, it's a solvent. It dries out after a day and leaves gunk behind. I had to explain to one guy why his $400 knife was getting sticky after a week. Use actual knife oil like KPL or Nano instead. Why do so many people think WD-40 fixes everything? Anyone else have to rescue a friend's blade from WD-40 damage?

Tbh I'm the guy who used to spray WD-40 on everything including my house door hinges and my bike chain, so I've definitely been that person. This one time I legit put it on a cheap Opinel and it got all sticky and gunky within a week, felt like I was trying to flick open a glue stick. Had to disassemble the whole thing and scrub it with alcohol just to get it smooth again. Now I just use mineral oil for everything, learned my lesson the hard way.
