Warning: dropped $140 on a fake stag knife at a flea market in Tulsa
Saw a folding knife with what looked like real stag handles at a booth in Tulsa last month and the seller swore it was old stock. Paid $140 cash because the handles felt right and I did not check the pins. Got it home under a light and the stag was resin, molded lines and all. My buddy who does handle swaps took one look and laughed. Now I only buy handles I can see in person with a loupe. Anyone got a trick for spotting resin stag before you hand over cash?
Check the weight in your hand next to a real stag piece. Resin feels too light and dead, like holding plastic, while real antler has that dense heft to it. What gave yours away besides the molded lines, was it the smell or the way the light hit the pins?
