Wasted $200 on a custom knife handle that cracked in a month
Found a guy on Instagram making hybrid micarta handles. Looked amazing. Paid up front. First pocket carry and a crack appeared near the tang. Tried to fix it with CA glue. Made it worse. Should've just stuck with G10 or plain wood. Anyone else get burned by a custom maker who promised too much?

That's a bummer for sure, but custom makers aren't all out to scam people. Hybrid micarta is tricky to work with right, some makers just don't have the experience or the right materials. Maybe you got a bad batch or the guy rushed your order, but there are plenty of great makers out there if you know where to look. A crack near the tang can happen if the handle wasn't fully cured or had an air bubble, which is usually a quality control issue, not a promise you can't trust. Maybe just ask around the knife forums for a reputable builder next time before you send money.

Three cracked handles in two years tells me you're not unlucky, you're just picking bad makers. If a guy can't control his curing process or can't spot an air bubble before shipping, he's either rushing orders or doesn't know what he's doing. That's not a "tricky material" problem, that's a lazy builder problem. I'd rather buy a plain G10 scale from someone who takes pride in his work than a fancy hybrid from a guy who can't handle it. Stop making excuses for people who take your money and deliver trash.
