Can we talk about how long it takes to figure out the right insert for a massive game

I spent three months last year trying to find a foam core insert that actually fit my copy of Twilight Imperium Fourth Edition. No joke, I went through four different designs from online templates before I gave up and tried making my own. The problem was every plan I found online had slightly different measurements for the box interior, so my pieces kept warping or not sliding in right. I ended up measuring the inside of my specific box with calipers and cutting my own foam core over a weekend. It still took me about six hours total to get the tray for the player tokens to sit flush. Has anyone else wasted way too much time on organizing a big box game like this?

Man, I feel your pain on this one. I went through something similar with Gloomhaven, that box is a nightmare for organization. I must have printed out four different foam core plans and every single one had measurements that were off by a few millimeters. Finally just bought a cheap set of calipers off Amazon and spent a whole Saturday measuring each compartment and cutting foam boards on my living room floor. The worst part was when I finished the token tray and realized the player mats still wouldn't fit on top of it. Had to rip out one whole side and redo it. Six hours is about right for a game that size, anyone who says they organized a big box game in under two hours is either lying or just tossing everything in bags like a heathen.

The foam core struggle is real with games that big. I measured my own copy of Eclipse twice before cutting anything, once with a plastic ruler and once with a tape measure, just to be safe. Pro tip from someone who learned the hard way: use a hot knife instead of a box cutter, it makes way cleaner cuts and your edges wont look like a beaver chewed them. Also worth checking if your box has any weird warping from humidity, I had to shave down one side of my insert cause my box was slightly bowed.
